If you were originally appointed in 1941 or earlier, the major change in your conditions of service, if you elect to come on to the new terms of service, will, apart from revised emoluments and the payment by you of rent if Government quarters are made available to you, be that for pension purposes you will cease to come under the provisions of the Police Pension Regulations but that any pension for which you may become eligible will be calculated at the rates at present laid down in Pension Regulations B of the Pensions Ordinance, No.21 of 1952. This will mean that for pension purposes your pension will be calculated at the rate of 1 for each month of service since your first appointment. 600 necessary legislation to effect this change will be introduced as soon as possible.

henever you were first appointed, the option which you now havo is a single option covering the receipt by you of salary and expat riation pay (if you are considered to be an expatriate officer), prescribed allowances, pension and gratuity and the payment by you of rent if Government quarters are made available to you. Tho Salaries Commission's recommendations regarding leave, length of tour, passages, etc., are still under con side ration and all modifications in the terms and conditions of service other than in regard to salaries, expatriation pay, prescribed allowances, pension and gratuity will be applied irrespective of option to the service generally including members of the Police Force in the for finally agreed upon by the Secretary of State end will be brou ht into effect by amendment of the appropriate administrative romulations and orders viz. General Orders, Secretariat circulars, etc., which, as you are aware are subject to modification at any time.

Two forms will be sent to you through the Commissioner of Police. Form A will give you particulars of the estimated revised emoluments for which you will be eligible and Form C will be the form on which you will be required to exercise your option. You will be required to exercise your option on Form C within three months from the date of receipt of Form A duly completed and this option will be irrevocable. You will not be able to elect in favour of any particular part or parts of the new conditions for which you have an option but must accept such conditions in full or remain on your existing terms. If you do not return the option form to 110 through the Commissioner of Police within the specified time, you will b deemed to have opted to remain on your present terms of service.

If you elect to remain on your present terms of service, you will on promotion be required to accept the new terms of service.

The salaries of all officers electing to come on to the new conditions of service will in future be on a Hong Kong dollar

basis.

CONVERSION TABLES AND INCREMENTAL DATES.

Conversion tables for Sub-Inspectors, Inspectors and Chief Inspectors are available for inspection in your department. Conversion to the points shown on these tables is however dependent upon an officer possessing the qualifica- tions and experience stipulated for his grade and upon
